July’s Volunteer of the Month: Mario Juves
Mario’s enthusiasm brings him to the next level.
Eight months ago, Mario burst on the Teen Feed scene. After signing up to be a monthly donor in support of Teen Feed programs, he wanted to be more involved. Mario added volunteering to the ways that he supports Teen Feed serving as an advocate volunteer on Mondays and Saturdays! Mario’s joyful personality and easy smile (and love of Vampire Diaries!) quickly brought him into the hearts of Teen Feed volunteers and guests alike. Mario’s day job as a high school Spanish teacher definitely speaks to the caring, patient, and playful attitude exemplified in Teen Feed.
How long have you been volunteering at Teen Feed?
I started as an advocate in October of 2012.
How did you get involved with Teen Feed?
I am friends with Dan [Teen Feed’s STOP Coordinator] and he talked with me a lot about the organization. So I started giving monthly contributions and being a teacher I realized I wanted to be more involved in what Teen Feed actually does. So I went to the orientation and now here I am!
What is your favorite thing about volunteering at Teen Feed?
Besides being able to meet some pretty amazing guests I enjoy being able to spend time with my fellow volunteers. They’re a great group of people!
What do you like to do outside of volunteering?
I enjoy spending time with friends and catching electronic music shows whenever possible .
What did you eat today?
Teriyaki chicken with noodles, two bananas, and a healthy veggie breakfast sandwich.
What have you learned from volunteering at Teen Feed?
I have learned how to be a better listener, and how sometimes just being there for people means more than anything. And I have been able to keep up with the latest news and gossip about the Vampire Diaries!
