February’s Ally of the Month: Anika Bull

Anika Bull is not a typical 14 year old.

Anika has been a stand-out Ally volunteer at Teen Feed every Sunday evening for nine months. Ally volunteers are young people 18 years or younger, who support program week for a minimum of six months. Anika didn’t limit herself to being an Ally. As a natural leader and communicator, Anika took it upon herself to host a house party, sharing with friends and family why Teen Feed is so important to her. Anika even inspired some of her friends to become Ally volunteers themselves! I’d like to share some of Anika’s words from that night:

“As an ally I go to Teen Feed every Sunday to help sign in, hand out supplies, and make sure the homeless youth get what they need. It’s heartbreaking to me that people so young are living of the streets without food or family. To me a family is like a team. My family works together in a team to make a dinner happen. My dad might get the food, my mom might prepare it, and my brother and I would set the table. I volunteer on Sundays with a Meal team and more volunteers. Together we make a team for the youth to rely on. “

How long have you been volunteering at Teen Feed?
I’ve been volunteering for about nine months – mostly as an ally interacting directly with the youth but also as a meal team member a few times.

Why/how did you get involved with Teen Feed?
My mom was the designer for the remodeled Teen Feed office and I got really interested and wanted to experience the program.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering at Teen Feed?
My favorite thing about volunteering at Teen Feed is definitely being able to help the youth and making a difference in their lives.

What do you like to do outside of volunteering?
I do a lot of sports – soccer, cross country skiing, and cross country. I also do film-making and am a student at a French-American school.

What did you eat today?
I had chili for lunch. Earlier I had waffles with peanut butter and a pear.

What have you learned from volunteering at Teen Feed?
Volunteering at Teen Feed has taught me that homeless youth can come from lots of different places and you always have to stay open minded.

Thank you for being a model for youth in need…and for all of us, Anika. We are thankful to have you as part of *our* team! To learn more about the Teen Feed’s Ally volunteer program,
